While 2020’s West Indian American Carnival was cancelled due to COVID-19, the Caribbean community within Flatbush kept the yearly tradition alive with a sidewalk fete, which included live steel pan players, Moko Jumbies (stilt walkers) and a live selector spinning Caribbean beats for the neighborhood to enjoy right outside of the Flatbush Caton Market. Caribbean flags and clothing were available for purchase from the myriad of small business micro entrepreneur vendors that operate out of FCM in preparation for the celebrations.
